It is an input for portables such as an MP3, MD, or CD player. The headphone jack is standard fare, but the line-in is a very useful innovation. Two jacks adorn the side of the preamp: headphone out and auxiliary in. This little mark is almost superfluous, though it is unlikely that you will ever really need to have the sub louder than the THX level. The subwoofer control even has a mark for the THX setting.

The aforementioned preamp also houses the controls for the system. I wish that Klipsch had gone for standard spring clips, which are used on the subwoofer. However, the speaker terminal uses a 1/8' headphone jack, so replacing or upgrading the cables could prove to be a pain in the ass. This shouldn't be much of an issue as long as your cable runs stay within the five or so feet allowed by the wire. You then connect the satellites with the provided speaker cable and you are ready to rock ass.Ībout that speaker cable. This preamp also has a DIN cable that connects to the subwoofer. You simply run the output from your soundcard to the preamp on the (in my case left channel) satellite. That said, the 2.1s were a breeze to set up. I never run music through any kind of 'enhancing' DSPs. In fact, it's the only way I listen to music at home. And I also appreciate normal stereo sound. When you are used to setting up more complex systems ¿ home theater, software heavy products, peripherals that might cause conflicts ¿ a straight up stereo system is a nice break.
